Bhutan International Marathon by Jigme Tshering (BTA)

Marathon in Bhutan

Bhutan International Marathon on 2nd March 2024!

Participating in the Bhutan International Marathon with my guests two months ago was a terrific experience as the run was in the sub-tropical and historical Punakha Valley at an elevation gradually descending from 1400-1250 meters only. Yet, the full marathon had to begin their race at an altitude of 2200 meters descending to 1250 meters. It seemed this elevation didn’t affect even the people coming from the sea level in terms of acclimatization, as we have arranged the trip for several groups till now.

We ran through the picturesque landscape of Punakha Valley, an ancient capital of Bhutan traversing the remote hamlets, amazing rice fields, and gigantic Punakha Dzong, and runs through the basin of two famous Rivers, Male and Female Rivers of Bhutan.

The race completion timings by most of us were wonderful for both the Full and Half Marathon! However, I would especially like to congratulate Thomas and David for their outstanding performances in the full and half-marathon respectively. In particular, I was overwhelmed by the result of 3.17 hours only which Thomas took in the Full Marathon.

I sincerely and wholeheartedly would like to congratulate our Marathon team from Poland for their successful results due to their great enthusiasm and efforts shown in visiting Bhutan, particularly for this Marathon.
