Then, drive to Thimphu, which will take a little over an hour. After checking in at the hotel, you can rest for a while. And drive to the Buddha Point to see one of the largest Buddha statues in the world, with a panoramic view of the whole Thimphu city. Visit the mini-Zoo to see our national animal, Takins. And then in the evening free stroll around the capital city to see the life of urban Bhutan. Overnight stays with dinner and breakfast at your hotel in Thimphu. Hotel: Pemako (5*)
Day 02: Thimphu sightseeing/Dodey Drak Hike
After breakfast, drive to Pamtsho and then start hiking towards Dodey Drak Buddhist Monastery, which will take about 4-5 hours round-trip. The hike to the 12th-century Dodey Drak Monastery in North Thimphu will provide you with a rare adventure and an escape from the common touristy points of visit in Thimphu city. The easy 2-hour 30-minute climb to the monastery along the ancient hidden trail will provide you with a breathtaking view of multi-colored rhododendrons covering the blue pine forest in Spring, and you may also see White Langurs, a variety of species of birds, and butterflies as you walk along the pine leaves-carpeted trail. Spectacular views of Tashichho Dzong, Wangdi Tze Dzong, and Dechen Phodrang will present themselves as you climb further, with Thimphu city peeping in occasionally from among the trees. Today you will have your picnic lunch with the monks and then hike back after your lunch. Later, you will visit our Weekend Market to see how people sell their farm produce. Explore Thimphu city in the evening. Your night halt stays and dinner at the same hotel in Thimphu.
Day 03: Thimphu – Phobjikha sightseeing
After your breakfast, drive towards Gangtey/Phobjikha over the impressive Dochula pass (3100 meters) with the views of the northern snow-capped mountains, which takes a maximum of four hours. Visit the Druk Wangyel Chorten at the pass. And then continue your drive towards Gangtey. Upon your arrival in Gangtey, check in at the hotel first.
Have lunch and en-route hike through Gangtey Nature Trail for about 1 ½ hours, which will give you a deep feeling of rural Bhutan, and the valley is beautiful because of its serenity. Phobjikha Valley is a roosting place for the world’s rarest Black-necked Cranes. And then visit the Crane Information Centre to see the rarest Black-Necked Cranes, as this gorgeous place is their winter home. Overnight halt stays and dinner at the hotel with stunning views of Phobjikha. Hotel: Taj Gangtey (5*)
Day 04: Phobjikha–Punakha sightseeing
Soon after your breakfast, drive towards Punakha. En Route, you can stop and view the newly built Wangdue Dzong perched on an amazing hilltop before reaching Punakha.
Punakha was the capital of Bhutan for over 300 years until 1955 and boasts arguably its most impressive Dzong (fortress). Upon arrival at the car park, walk across the traditional footbridge that spans the river and into Punakha Dzong. The Dzong is beautifully located between two popular rivers, Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu (the male and female rivers). Explore and experience the architectural grandeur of the “fortress of great happiness”. Bhutan’s kings are crowned here, and the central monk body resides here during winter, so it remains a place of high importance to the country. Your lunch today will be nearby Dzong. And then drive to your hotel situated by the river basin of the Mochu River in Punakha. Hotel: andBeyond River lodge (5*)
Day 05: Punakha sightseeing–Paro
After your breakfast, we will set out on a hike to Khamsum Yuelay Namgyal Chorten for about 2 hour’s round trips. The walk and temple are renowned for their serenity, location, magnificent statues, and frescoes. The intricate artwork provides a good understanding of the century’s old traditional arts and crafts, which are still used in modern times. The view from the observation point of the temple is awe-inspiring as it provides a panoramic view of the towering mountains in the northern frontiers and the alluvial Punakha Valley to the south. After the hike, you will drive towards Paro, crossing the Dochula pass again.
Upon your arrival in Paro, you will drive to a Farmhouse to see how people live on their subsistence farm in the village. And if you like, you can soak in a traditional Hot Stone Bath, which is normally done to heal your body aches and injuries as well. Also, you can taste the traditional Butter tea with local homemade snacks, and taste Ara, which is a distilled local wine. You can also try archery at the Farmhouse. Hotel: Taj Paro (5*)
Day 06: Paro Tiger’s Nest hike
After your breakfast, drive till the road’s end and begin your hike uphill. Walking time will be around 5 hours for a round trip. Taktsang monastery is perched on the face of a cliff 800 Mts above the Paro valley. It is a memorable spiritual journey. It was here that the great Tantric master, Guru Padmasambhava, flew in from Tibet on the back of a flying tigress to propagate his teachings in Bhutan. Lunch at the cafeteria and then hike back all downhill. Overnight stay at the same hotel in Paro.
