Bhutan is unarguably one of the top destinations in the world for bird-watching tours and ornithologists. Most areas in the country are naturally good bird habitats because 72% of our land is covered by forests which provide safe environments, rich vegetation and favorable weather conditions. Birding in Bhutan offers abundant choice as the country has more than 770 different bird species — about the same as the whole of Europe!
In the last couple of years, our birders have discovered many new species, and it is likely that there will be more. Our Bhutan birding trip is generally organized as a comfortable camping trip with great meals, and sometimes we stay in 3-star hotels/guest houses.
The best places to see birds are in western, eastern and southern Bhutan. Therefore, most of our bird-watching tours run from west to south-east or vice versa, and they take a minimum of two weeks. You will see firsthand the difference between our isolated eastern region and urban western Bhutan.
The best seasons for birders are in mid-spring to late spring and during mid-fall. Our knowledgeable local birding guides always strive to locate the best and most suitable sights, and to allow proper time for you to watch the birds of Bhutan.
