Bhutan Festivals Tour

The Bhutan Festival, known as the Tshechu, is celebrated by the people of Bhutan. And Tshechu means the “Tenth Day”. Age-old culture and traditions are deep-seated in the minds of people in Bhutan. Buddhism is a way of life, so the festivals are organized in almost all the dzongs and monasteries of Bhutan on different dates and seasons. Watching the festival dances is a delightful way to experience the religious culture and social gatherings. A festival is a merit-accumulating and learning event as it teaches people more about their life and death. Festivals also bring lots of joy and relaxation to the Bhutanese people. It is a time when farmers rejoice after their years of hard work in their fields. People from all walks of life come to witness the festivals in their finest attire. Most festivals happen in autumn and spring, and very few occur in winter. The sacred mask dances revealed during the festivals organized by the states are almost the same everywhere; one or two mask dances may vary from place to place. In one particular place, there will be only one or two unique mask dances originating from their region, but most mask dances are similar.

However, the local festivals organized by the rural communities in their monasteries are quite different from those organized by the state. Normally, locally organized festivals are unique and more enjoyable to attend because they’re less crowded. The opportunity to mingle with people, take good photographs, and comfortably enjoy the festival is more viable if you attend the local festivals. Based on your schedule, you may travel to witness the state-organized or local festivals in Bhutan. Tour reservations for most festivals must be made at least 6-7 months in advance to secure flight seats and good hotel bookings. Do visit the updated Festival Schedules for this year.
